Nokia has started to roll out its version of Microsoft Windows Phone 8’s GDR3, the Nokia Black firmware update since around 11:30PM 9th Jan 2014 – 12:00AM 10th Jan 2014 IST, starting off with the high end Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Nokia Lumia 925.
Nokia’s global support page says that its already available for 925/1020 Coming soon for 9X/8X Waiting for approval for 7X/6X/5X series. We expect the roll out to end within a couple of weeks. You get all the bells and whistles which are part and parcel of the already well know GDR3, the new noticeable welcome additions are the App folder, which lets you put several app into a single live tile acting as a folder, something similar to what Samsung brought to the table with their app few weeks ago. And also this brings notifications in the glance screen for instance say a missed call.
Do keep a check on the Phone Updates section under the settings for the update, and do not update via OTA (Over The Air) if you have less than 2GB of free device memory, go to the Nokia Care instead to update. If you have enough free space than the mentioned limit above, you can safely sit in the comfort of your home and hit that update button and watch the device updates itself while you are sitting there on a couch, like a boss.
