19 Jun , 2012

Nokia has recently launched Nokia 808 PureView in India. India is one of the luckiest country to receive that beast early.

IBN Live has recently reported that India is going to receive Nokia Lumia 900 soon. Nokia Lumia 900 is a high end Windows Phone device with 4.3″ AMOLED CBD, powerful 1.4GHz CPU, 8MP dual LED camera and with a front camera also.

With high end phones, low end phones are also coming to India. Nokia’s Asha series is meant for low budget phones that can help everybody connect with the Internet. Nokia launches the Asha 311, 305 and 306

6 Jun , 2012

Today Nokia has announced three more Asha devices to further expand the affordable Asha series. This time we are talking about three brand new full touch phones. Yes, that’s right full touch S40 phones.

Nokia Asha 311

The most powerful of the bunch is the Asha 311 pictured above which sports a 3 inch LCD QVGA(320x240px) capacitive display powered by a 1GHz CPU. The connectivity features include Bluetooth, 3.5G and WiFi b/g. It also supports AV output trough the 3.5mm jack port. The Asha 311 has a 256MB internal user memory and supports micro-SD cards up to 32GB. Photography is handled by a 3.2MP fixed focus snapper.

Check out the video below for a preview of the Asha 311.

Nokia Asha 306

The Asha 306 pictured above sports a 3 inch LCD QVGA(320x240px) capacitive display but the CPU specs are still unknown. The connectivity features include Bluetooth, 2G(no 3G unfortunately) but now WiFi. It also supports AV output trough the 3.5mm jack port. The Asha 306 has a 64MB internal user memory and supports micro-SD cards up to 32GB. Photography is handled by a 2MP fixed focus snapper.

Check out the video below for a preview of the Asha 306.

Nokia Asha 305

The Asha 305 is the dual SIM version of the 306 so the specs are the same. The Asha 305 uses the easy swap SIM capability.

All three phones come with Nokia Maps and Nokia Life preinstalled and will benefit from a launch offer of 40 Electronic Arts games for free.

The new touch based Asha OS features a pull-down notification area just like Belle and the input is handled by a QWERTY on-screen keyboard available in both portrait and landscape orientations.

Nokia Asha 302 review

29 May , 2012

As you may or may not know the past week I used a Nokia Asha 302 as my main device, as part of a challenge. The nice folks over at Nokia Connects sent the device over to me, and so I turned of my N8 and went Asha for a week. I wrote a series of daily posts describing each day and the challenges I faced with the Asha, if and how I got around them. Now it’s time for the full review. I won’t go trough every little setting on the phone since the purpose of this review is to show how you can get along with the Asha 302 to do your daily tasks.

First of all let’s see the specs.

Spec sheet

Storage 100MB
Micro-SD up to 32GB
Primary 3.2MP 2048×1536 pixels, no flash
Front facing No
Video VGA 640×480@15FPS
Size 2.4 inch
Resolution 320x240px
Technology TFT, 256K colors
Endurance Plastic
WLAN Yes, b/g/n
Network GSM, 3G
Bluetooth 2.1 A2DP
USB on the go Yes
Radio Stereo FM with RDS

As you can see, the specs are very impressive for a feature phone, rivaling some of the early Symbian devices with 128MB of RAM and the 1GHz CPU. My guess is the Asha 302 could have ran Symbian S60v3 without a hassle, but since Nokia is ditching Symbian, S40 will have to do.

Nokia Asha 302 – #SmartphoneLiteWeek

25 May , 2012

A couple weeks ago, Tom from Nokia Connects made an offer that a Nokia blogger as myself just could not pass: trial a Nokia Asha 302 and use it as my main phone for a week. Me and three other guys took the offer and so the #SmartphoneLiteWeek has begun. I decided to write a daily post describing how I got along with the Asha on my personal blog, and now I’m gonna tell you the whole story here on NokiaTips.

Day one

First day without a smartphone… Using Asha 302 as my main device made me realize that I’m nor really using my smartphone to it’s full potential. Asides from smart dialing, the weather app and Dungeon Hunter 2 HD, I haven’t missed much so far.
